mac wireless woes As much as I love the TiBook, the seemingly random set of apps [iTunes, MSN Messenger, Radio] that don't work on the wireless connection is driving me nuts. I can't be the only person having this problem surely ?

PocketSOAP It appears that there's a bug in the timeout handling that got introducted with the HTTP 1.1 support. See this thread in the mailing list for details. This'll get fixed in the 1.4 release.

ETags Lots of talk about etags, this is good, its looks like two of the most popular aggregators [at least based on the traffic I get], Radio and NetNewsWire are both getting etag support. If you have no idea what an ETag is, then checkout my Busy Developers Guide to ETags.

PocketSOAP 1.4 beta I'm in the process of putting together a 1.4 beta release of PocketSOAP, this'll include the http compression support, timeouts on PocketPC and a few bug fixes along with a new NSIS based installer. I pretty much have the PC version wrapper up, working on the PocketPC installer now. It should be available by the weekend.

Do You Know Squarepusher This is a recent addition to the ever growing music collection, it includes a really cool cover of Joy Divisions "Love will tear us appart again". Other new music of note includes the Breakestra's mix tape part 1, Thievery Corporation's The Richest Man In Babylon, Mark Knopfler's The Ragpieker's Dream, and the Rough Trade Shops Electronic 01 compilation.

Axis I'm trying to get Axis rc2 up and running on OSX, I got Tomcat 4.1.12 up and running no problem, but happyaxis.jsp returns a 500 status code with the error "org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Cannot inherit from final class". Guess i need to start digging around axis-dev [well, it'll have to wait til I get back from my book shopping trip to Staceys]

Wireless charger I would love one of these for all my desks. One less thing to think about: my cell phone, camera, powerbook all would be recharged while they sit on my desk, and I don't have to physically plug them into a bunch of tangled cords!
True Mobility.

Wireless Electricity

picture of the desktop mat with a notebook and PDA on it, recharging"Fresh from the 'used to be sci-fi' file, you may soon be able to charge your mobile gadgets without the use of any wires, ports, connectors, or cradles. MobileWise, a California-based semiconductor company, is demonstrating a product called the Wire-Free-Electricity Base, a large mousepad-like mat that sits on the desktop. When combined with a Wire-Free-Electricity Adapter that is mounted in or on mobile devices, you can charge and power devices like cell phones, PDAs, and laptops just by setting them on top of the pad. MobileWise won[base ']t sell this technology directly to consumers; instead, it is looking to partner with vendors that will integrate it into devices or sell add-on adapters." [PDABuzz.com]

This is quickly becoming a high priority on my list. The battery on the notebook is nearing death; it's down to 20 minutes without a power cord, and that's if you make it a candlelight dinner and talk nice to it first. The house has wireless internet access but more and more, I find myself tethered to a power outlet. This particular product may not be the most ideal solution, but I need this next step!
